History

The International Pentecostal City Mission in Toronto was pioneered 1974 by the late Deacon James Duncan and his nephew Linton Edmond. They worshipped at several places until acquiring their first building in 1975, which was located at 3291 Dundas St W. in downtown Toronto where their first official secretary/treasurer, Mrs. Norma Walters-Curtis was appointed.

The first ordained deacons were the late Deacon James Duncan, the late Deacon Owen Lawson, Rev Norman Vernon, and the late Deacon Aston Meade. The first deaconesses appointed were the late Deaconess Hazel Dias, the late Deaconess A Meade, the late Deaconess Lousie Dias, and Deaconess D Henry. Some of the first pioneer members were Sister K Lawson, Deaconess Rose Duncan, Sister Olga Houson, Reverend Stafford Manderson and Light-Brigade Sylvia McDermott-Manderson.

As they moved forward, God blessed them and increased their numbers under the leadership of Deacon Joshua Small. After Deacon Small’s return to Jamaica the leadership was then handed over to Reverend T Meade until the move to their permanent location at 1764 St. Clair Ave W. in 1983. The leadership was then transferred to Reverend Ruth Barton until her death after which Reverend May Vernon-Dixon and Reverend Cynthia Williams were appointed to leadership.

In 1994, Malton Pentecostal City Mission was started by the late Reverend Venita Vernon and her husband Reverend Norman Vernon. In 2008 the Pentecostal City Mission churches were divided into regions and our first regional bishop appointed was Bishop Carmen Walter who resides in California. We are presently joined with the New York region serving under the leadership of Bishop Petrona Reid. In May 2010, after the death of Reverend Williams, Reverend Fay Scarlett was ordained as pastor along with Reverend Stafford Manderson as the assistant pastor.
